The Rape Of Africa

David LaChapelle's latest work is a single large-format image titled “The Rape of Africa”. The exhibition is a one-piece-show - on entering the gallery one is confronted with the colourful and detailed image, glamorous, extravagant on first sight, but once you’ve scratched the surface of glamour a new layer becomes visible. The scene, inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s Venus and Mars painting (1484), features a serene Naomi Campbell as its African Venus and Mars is represented by a white male model, snoozing carelessly while he is protected by three black boys that will do his dirty work, surrounded by treasures taken from the continent.

Part of the image covers the new issue of Flaunt magazine. The actually made two alternative covers - one of Naomi Campbell with her nipple exposed and another with her nipple covered by hair. One of the covers will be a collector’s item due to limited printing. Can you guess which one?

besides drinking and laying on the beach, we have managed actually to do something during the summer. Metropolis (one of the biggest party organiser in bulgaria) has invited John Digweed for a huge party on the bourgas beach. the theme was "VOODOO" and the whole place was accordingly decorated. of course the dancers also had to be voodoo-tized and Metropolis gave us the chance to do their styling. so here are the results - everything handmade by catt & lorett. hope you like it :)
